Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
I think Wolfgang is trying to say that even if you can instruct someone to do something perfect (Which you can’t) and make it so they will never fail (Which you won’t) nothing will give that person a better chance to exceed than giving them good encouragement. And even if that person will never be perfect he/she will do better than perfect instruction, with good encouragement. Because even though instructing that person to do it right and well is very good for the persons growth in whatever he/ she is doing making that person feel good about him/herself will be a better motivator than skill. So remember if you are instructing someone to do something remember that when their moment comes, be there to encourage them because that act will show more than however much time you put into instruction.

Stephen R. Covey
I think this quote means that if you live like a clock than you are always on a schedule and you are always focused on the time. And when you focus on time you not focused on the task on hand. Now unlike the clock a compass is not

Wayne Gretzky
I think Wayne Gretzky is trying to say that if you never shoot, you have a zero percent chance of scoring a goal. Even if to begin with your chance of scoring is 1% what’s better, that or absolutely no chance at all. Sure one may not be much but its better than zero. And even if you don’t score you had a chance. And if a chance does not sound like much, it isn’t but in hockey there is no perfect shot. Every time the puck leaves and hits your stick you have to take a chance. But like I said before, if you don’t shoot you’ve got a zero percent chance of scoring. Every single shot you take has a chance, and since every shot in hockey every shot counts, good or bad. So when you have the chance shoot because you may never get the chance again.

Theodore Roosevelt
I think Roosevelt is trying to say that making a wrong choice is not always the worst thing to do. For example, say you are playing a hockey game and you shoot at the net from the top of the circles. The top of the circles is not the best place if you want to score a goal, but you shoot it anyways. Two things could happen. You could score or you could miss. The chance that you score may be about 30%. The chance that you miss are big but say you didn’t shoot at all. Instead of 30% of scoring it would be 0%. So maybe the chance of you shooting and scoring are low, but if you do nothing it would be impossible to score because you didn’t shoot. So don’t not try in fear of failure but be try so you can have success.

Og Mandino
I think that Og Mandino is trying to say that cherish the comforts of life because then you will be able to enjoy them, but when you step out of your comfort zone then you will be more successful. It will be hard and you will be tested beyond your limits but you will get the best reward. Like Og said if you stay in the light than life will be easy and clear, but wander through the night with only your goal in mind you will get to see the wonder of the stars. And when you get thorough all of that you know you have overcome your barriers and you will have accomplished you goal.

Benjamin Franklin
I think Benjamin Franklin is trying to say that preparation is on of the keys to success. Being prepared can be the difference between failure and success. One time we took the North Face Hike on Alyeska, and we forgot to bring something sugary for my dad. Him, being a type-one

Robert H. Schuller
I think this quote means that no matter what bad things have happened in your past, don’t let them influence your future. You cannot change the past but you can shape your future. Don’t act on bad things that have happened, because the result will probably not be good. But if you act the on the way you want your future to be, and not on the way you have been treated in the past than you will have a better life. So do what you hope for the future, not what has hurt you in the past and you will be the one that shapes what is to come.

Thomas Carlyle
I think Thomas is trying to say that if you have no purpose in what you do, you will not be able to steer in the right direction. The rudder of a ship is what makes the ship turn, and steer. Without the rudder, the ship will go in a meaningless direction, always at the mercy of the waves. The boat will get lost and will not be able to find it’s way back to shore. Or you could be in situation of the Titanic. I don’t know what happened there, but either the rudder didn’t work, nobody was using it or there was just a lousy driver, but the Titanic hit an Iceberg and sank. And the same goes for you and any goal you set. If you don’t feel purpose, than you will not be able to turn in the right direction. You will get lost without a way back to shore or you may crash. But if you feel that purpose you will be able to steer your boat in the right direction, and you will eventually best the waves and the wind and make it to your destination.

Harry Sheehy
I think this quote means that when you win or lose anything in particular if you act like you won or lost than you deserve to be called a winner or loser. If you lose and you act like a snob about it then you will never be a winner even if you won. But if you area good sport about winning or losing will always be treated like a winner because when you are a good about winning or losing you might as well have earned to be a winner. So when you are playing a game or having a competition, regardless if you win or lose, be a good sport, and after that, even if you lose, you will be a winner.

Bill Bradley
I think Bill is trying to say that If you have an ambition, that is something to follow but if you don’t have persistence than it will be a long walk. Usually an ambition builds a long road and if you have to walk the entire way eventually you will get tired of it, and turn back. In real life, when you have an ambition and you do not keep up at it, you start doing it less and less until eventually you forget about it and never do it again, at least for a long time. Same thing with our road. If we do not use it and we don’t drive on it, it won’t be usable after a little while. So keep being persistent and that road will last forever, until you drive to the end.
